Apidra Insulin contains Insulin Glulisine, a rapid-acting insulin analog used to control high blood sugar in people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. It begins working within 10–20 minutes of injection, peaks in about 1 hour, and lasts for 3–4 hours, making it ideal for mealtime glucose control.
Apidra works by replacing the insulin your body cannot produce or use effectively, helping glucose enter cells for energy. It is usually administered subcutaneously before meals or within 15 minutes after eating. It may also be given via an insulin pump for continuous delivery.
This insulin is often prescribed alongside long-acting insulin or oral antidiabetic medications for complete blood sugar management. Using Apidra as directed helps prevent complications such as nerve damage, kidney problems, vision loss, and heart disease.
Possible side effects include low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), redness or swelling at the injection site, and mild weight gain. Regular blood sugar monitoring is essential, and dosage should be individualized by your doctor.
