Entacom 200 mg is a Parkinson’s disease medication that contains Entacapone, a catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitor. It is not used alone but is prescribed alongside Levodopa/Carbidopa to enhance their effectiveness. Entacapone works by blocking the COMT enzyme, which breaks down Levodopa in the body, allowing more of it to reach the brain. This action helps increase dopamine availability and extends the duration of Levodopa’s effect.
Entacom is particularly effective in managing “wearing-off” symptoms, where the effect of Levodopa starts to fade before the next dose is due. By smoothing out these fluctuations, Entacom helps maintain better control over tremors, stiffness, and slowness of movement. The usual dose is one 200 mg tablet taken with each Levodopa/Carbidopa dose, but it should only be used under a doctor’s supervision. Regular use may improve daily function and quality of life in people with moderate to advanced Parkinson’s disease.
