Librax is a combination medication containing Chlordiazepoxide, a benzodiazepine, and Clidinium, an anticholinergic. It is primarily prescribed to treat irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), stomach ulcers, and intestinal inflammation by calming the digestive tract and relieving associated symptoms like cramps, bloating, and anxiety.
Chlordiazepoxide reduces anxiety and muscle tension in the gut, while Clidinium slows the movement of the intestines and reduces acid secretion. This dual-action approach makes Librax effective for both functional gastrointestinal disorders and stress-related digestive issues.
Librax is usually taken before meals and at bedtime. It may cause drowsiness or dry mouth, so it’s best to avoid alcohol or activities requiring alertness while on this medication. Long-term use should be supervised to prevent dependence due to the benzodiazepine component.
